The last time Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez prepared for the release of a shared film, they were months into a breakup.
Now, 20 years later, history is repeating itself.
As J.Lo walked the red carpet Sept. 6 at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival's premiere of Unstoppable, in which she plays the mother of wrestler Anthony Robles, her estranged husband—a producer on the biopic—was back in Los Angeles.
And Affleck, 52, appeared to be in great spirits. Wearing a blue suit and aviator sunglasses, the Oscar winner flashed a big smile as he was photographed walking with an unidentified man.
While Lopez and Affleck’s fellow co-producer Matt Damon were in Toronto to celebrate the film, the Air star remained in Los Angeles for work and to spend time with his and ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s kids Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, E! News has learned.
Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck in Los Angeles Aug. 20, more than two years after they married in Las Vegas after a whirlwind rekindled romance. In her filing, the Hustlers actress noted the pair had separated in April.
The former couple had originally begun a relationship after meeting on the set of the movie Gigli in 2001. The following year, they got engaged and also filmed Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl.
Lopez and Affleck walked the red carpet together for the premiere of the first film in 2003. But by the time came to promote the second in 2004, the couple had broken up and J.Lo was absent as Affleck walked the red carpet with his mom at the Jersey Girl premiere in New York City.
As for how their breakup has affected their new film, Unstoppable director William Goldenberg weighed in on the current dynamic between Lopez and Affleck, noting that there is "not really" any awkwardness.
"Everybody's a professional, and that's their own personal thing," he told Variety in an interview published Sept. 6. "I love them both. I mean, I know Ben better, but Jennifer was literally a dream to work with. She was incredible. And their personal life is their personal life."
